Who We Are MWRD Employees Credit Union (MWRD ECU) is a full-service financial institution. Credit unions are federally insured, member-owned, profit-sharing financial cooperatives. After setting aside adequate reserves, we return all profits to our members in the form of competitive interest rates, reduced fees, and state-of-the-art account access. We have been providing high quality financial services to our members since 1953. Our charter, or membership field, includes all current and retired employees of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and the MWRD Employees Retirement Fund and the MWRD Employees Credit Union. Mission Statement To be our members' primary financial institution of choice by providing competitive financial services and meeting their changing needs while maintaining our financial stability. Our Core Values The single most important factor which differentiates MWRD Employees' Credit Union from other types of financial institutions is personalized service to our membership. When we are faced with our members' challenges, we ask ourselves "how can we help this member save his or her home?" "How can we help this member avoid bankruptcy?" By focusing on providing personalized service and continuing to work toward our mission statement, the Credit Union continues to improve and grow. As we look ahead, the economy holds challenges for financial institutions. We are fortunate to belong to a cooperative that allows us to build strength from each other. However, this Credit Union does not exist by accident - we need to proactively anticipate ways to meet our members' changing needs. We need to solicit new members and ensure that all our members understand the benefits of using our Credit Union's services. Continuing to treat each member as a valuable individual is the best way to ensure that we are each member's primary financial institution of choice. Credit Union Board and Committees The members of the credit union elect a board of directors at the annual meeting. The Board is responsible for the control, direction and management of the affairs, funds and records of the credit union. Only credit union members are eligible for election to the credit union board and its committees. It is important, therefore, that members attend their annual meeting to vote for the credit union's board of directors and hear reports of the credit union's officers and committees. Once elected, the credit union board meets and elects a chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer. It also appoints committees to enable the work of the credit union to proceed smoothly until the next annual meeting. Some key committees are: Supervisory Committee The Supervisory Committee is primarily responsible for overseeing the financial management of the credit union. Not only does the Supervisory Committee review monthly financial statements and reports, but it assists in forming strategic plans and goals to monitor the credit union's overall performance and to act as the human resource department for the credit union. The Supervisory Committee also ensures that the board is acting within the law and in the best interest of the members. Should you have any comments or concerns, you can email the Supervisory Committee at supervisorycommittee@mwrdecu.com. Credit Committee The core business of your credit union is to make loans, and the Credit Committee, in turn, is keenly aware of its responsibilities and the "personal service" nature of the Credit Union. As an overview, it is the Credit Committee's responsibility to:
