What's the difference between a bank and a credit union?

At MWRD ECU you're not just a customer, you're a member and an owner. We offer nearly all the financial services and conveniences you'll find at a bank and some very important advantages you won't find there. Since you're an owner, we answer to you. That also means our profits go back to you in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings yields and fewer/lower fees.

Also, our volunteer Board of Directors is made up of members just like you. Each year, we hold an annual meeting, where members vote and elect our Board of Directors to represent them in setting the policies of the credit union. Credit union elections are based on a one-member, one-vote structure. This structure is unlike the for-profit, public companies where stockholders vote according to the number of shares of stock they own.
