Membership Information Who can join?
Membership in MWRD Employees' Credit Union is open to the employees and retirees of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and the MWRD Retirement Board. It is also open to the employees of the MWRD Employees Credit Union. What are the advantages of joining?
Because MWRD Employees' Credit Union is a democratic, member-owned cooperative, members-like you-have the power to direct credit union policy. Each year, we hold an annual election and meeting, where members select candidates for our Board of Directors from among their peers, to represent them in setting the policies of the credit union. Credit union elections are based on a one-member, one-vote structure. This structure is unlike the for-profit, public companies where stockholders vote according to the number of shares of stock they own. Besides the member-ownership advantage, the not-for-profit status of MWRD Employees' Credit Union enables us to operate at a lower cost than many for-profit institutions, and helps us to offer competitive loan and savings rates to members. How do I join?
As long as this amount is maintained, your account remains active, and you are a member in good standing (have not caused a loss to the Credit Union) you are eligible for all of our products and services. Once your account is open, the privileges of membership are yours forever as long as your account remains in good standing. However, should you close your account or your account is brought down to a zero balance, you can only rejoin the Credit Union if you are still in the Credit Union's field of membership. Important Information About Procedures for Opening a New Account: To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, telephone number, date of birth, social security number, and your MWRDGC employee identification card that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask for your driver's license (or government issued identification evidencing residence and bearing a photograph and signature).
